Bigband is my great love and whenever I play with a Bigband this is the
kit I use. A Ludwig Silver Pearl. Sizes 22/16/13/14 inch, with an extra
14 inch Gretsch floor tom. |
|
|
The heads are Fiberskins by Remo and the cymbals are Stagg, Zildjan and
Istanbul. The hardware is by Ludwig, Pearl and Sonor.
Check out my small Gretsch set on page ‘C.V. Maarten’. |

Mel Lewis ‘Ride’, an 18 inch A. Zildjan ‘Crash Ride’ and 12 inch
Istanbul hi-hat cyms.
Photo left- Two I’m proud of: a Gretsch 8,5 Rosewood snare and a Ludwig

Photo right- These are my A.A. van der Hoek ‘machine’ Timpani with
calfskin. Yes indeed I am extremely happy with these drums!
I use them with a.o. the “Balthasar Neumann Ensemble” under Thomas
Hengelbrock (Rigoletto by Verdi, Zar und Zimmermann by Lortzing) but
also sometimes with the “Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century”, in
Schumann and Brahms or recently even in Mendelssohn. |
Photo left- One of my Potter Baroque Timps, which I play on with the for
instance the “Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century”, the “Freiburger
Barockorchester” and the “Combattimento Consort Amsterdam”.
It’s the smallest one of a set of 4. This one has a diameter of 21,5
inch. |

Last but not least a part of my collection of ‘various’ drums I
occasionally use in pieces by for instance Rameau, Lully and Rebel,
with a.o. the “Combattimento Consort Amsterdam” and the “Orchestra
of the Eighteenth Century”.
A Bass Drum from Amsterdam, an Argentinian ‘bombo’ from the
mountains near Córdoba, about 100 kilometers from Buenos Aeres, a
newly made 'tambour Provencale' – a copper militairy snare drum from
some while ago, a shalow wooden drum from Vienna- a baby 'djembé'
bought in Italy and a baby 'tarabuca' I found in Jerusalem.
